The first YouTube video is going in a museum
The Victoria and Albert Museum will exhibit “Me at the Zoo,” the first video ever uploaded to YouTube. A behind-the-scenes display of the rebuild process will be shown at V&A East Storehouse.
Freddie Gibbs is offering karate lessons at his shows
Freddie Gibbs is offering 45-minute pre-show karate masterclasses as part of the VIP experience for his upcoming The Last Rabbit tour. The “Pre-Show Dojo” includes instruction from professional teachers, a custom gi and belt, and a signed copy of Alfredo 2 on vinyl. The tour begins in May and, interestingly, includes select dates featuring opening performances from Nourished by Time.
Nan Goldin’s landmark photobook celebrates 40 years with new exhibition
Nan Goldin’s photobook The Ballad of Sexual Dependency is being exhibited in full at Gagosian’s London location to mark its 40th anniversary. The show presents all 126 images from the 1986 book, which chronicled Goldin’s intimate circle across New York, Boston, Berlin, and beyond. The work, first staged as a nightclub slideshow and later published by Aperture, remains a defining document of 1980s downtown culture, and includes prominent creatives such as John Waters, Cookie Mueller, and others.
Jorja Smith, Slawn, and others star in stop motion LEGO show
A new episode of Pick a Piece has been released, combining detailed Lego animation with voice performances from a stacked group of artists including Jorja Smith, Slawn, Ninajirachi, Jim Legxacy, and more. Hosts Zain and Ellis thoughtfully discuss the history of animation and its many forms while building a The Simpsons Lego set. Catch previous episodes featuring Fakemink and Fimiguerrero on their YouTube channel.
Heron Preston will serve you chili tonight
Heron Preston is cooking and serving his personal chili recipe today at FOOD, the experimental concept kitchen on Canal Street. The menu changes daily and models itself after gallery exhibitions, framing meals as rotating installations. Preston’s recipe features more than 20 ingredients and is described by him as a winter staple from his childhood. Reservations sold out almost immediately after it was announced.
