This Week’s Headlines

Ye debuted a new era of Yeezy

Ye makes return to runway with Yeezy Season 01 fashion show

This week, Ye debuted Yeezy Season 01, a 17-minute runway show in Los Angeles, previewing the collections alongside 3–4 new songs, including a Jungle track. Nettspend walked in the show. The standout was a pair of translucent silicone heels. Online sentiment was largely positive, with many praising Ye’s return to the underrated minimalist approach, where unique materiality and silhouettes take center stage. The show was his first runway presentation since 2022.

Bob Dylan and the Pope linked

Bob Dylan Meets Pope Leo in a Black Hoodie and Polka-Dot Tie | Vanity Fair

While in town on tour, Bob Dylan had a private audience with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. The two exchanged gifts. Dylan presented the Pope with a copy of his 2004 autobiography Chronicles: Volume One, and received a traditional blessed Vatican rosary in return. Dylan’s avant-garde–looking zip-up sweatshirt was designed by legendary French workwear designer Gauthier Borsarello, formerly of the brand Fursac.

The father of underground rapper Che, Mike G. Mitchell, released a book on Amazon this week titled Raising Greatness Against the Odds: From a Prison Cell to the Rise of Che, a memoir written entirely with ChatGPT. You can access his wisdom for just $25.

Spotify is going to let users remix any song using AI

Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter DJing with an alien in Chicago (1997).

Spotify is developing an AI tool that would let Premium subscribers remix existing songs into different genres or reimagine them as covers by other artists. The feature could cost an additional $4–$5 per month, with original artists receiving royalties from remixes that can also be uploaded to playlists. The proposal has raised major concerns over artists’ creative control and fears of AI slop flooding streaming platforms.

This man walked around the world in 28 years

Meet Karl Bushby, the man who walked around the world in 28 years

Karl Bushby, a former English paratrooper, has completed his 28-year journey to walk around the world without using any form of transport. His journey began in Punta Arenas, Chile, in 1998, when he was 29, and ended this November, at age 57, at his mother’s home in Hull. He covered between 31,000 and 36,000 miles across 30 countries. One glaring omission, however, is Africa. He never actually set foot on the continent.

A theatre is hypnotizing audiences so they can re-live seeing specific movies for the first time

Revisiting 'Get Out,' Jordan Peele's 2017 Horror Masterpiece - The Atlantic

Netherlands-based cinema chain Pathé is testing whether hypnosis can make people experience a favorite film for the first time all over again. On November 9, 30 participants will take part in Pathé REWIND at a theater in The Hague, where hypnotherapist Victor Kraemer will attempt to erase their memories of films like The Matrix, Se7en, La La Land and Interstellar before they watch them again. The goal is to recreate the suspense and surprise of a first viewing. (In other film news, China’s first fully AI generated movie flops hard at the box office.)

New $1,000 AI device shoots lasers at mosquitoes

This Device Uses A.I. and Lasers to Kill Mosquitoes

Photon Matrix, a Chinese startup, has unveiled a $1,000 laser device that uses radar and AI-powered cameras adapted from self-driving vehicles to zap mosquito wings off mid-flight. The lasers produce a visible blue flash and are designed to shut off when they detect humans, pets, or other non-mosquito entities. While seemingly effective, the device reportedly causes a particularly painful death for the mosquitoes, which can take hours or even days to die.
