MySpace is coming back
Brothers Tim and Chris Vanderhook have announced that they will relaunch the iconic early 2000s social media platform MySpace. Their reboot is being framed as anti-doomscrolling and anti-algorithm, prioritizing user-controlled personal pages and featuring nostalgic features like HTML profile customization, chronological feeds, and the “Top 8” friends ranking system.
John Galliano is the 2027 Met Gala Theme
The 2027 Met Gala theme has been announced as John Galliano: Horizons. The choice had led to renewed discussion about Galliano’s antisemitic comments in 2010, which led to his firing from Dior and subsequent industry exile, before his 2014 return to Margiela. A press release from the Met states that the exhibition considers “how artistic achievement should be understood alongside ethical accountability.” Only two previous Met Gala themes have focused on a single living designer as a solo subject: Yves Saint Laurent and Rei Kawakubo.
GTA VI gameplay footage is premiering on Netflix
Three months ahead of the release of GTA VI, fans will finally get their first official glimpse at gameplay later this month, in an exclusive Netflix premiere on August 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET. A wider release will follow six hours later. After years of fake leaks and speculation surrounding the game, the reveal will finally pull back the curtain on one of the most anticipated titles in gaming history, which has been in development for the past 12 years.
Addison Rae’s father faked his own death
Monty Lopez, father of Addison Rae, is known for his bizarre attention-seeking antics. This week, he posted photos from the ER on his Instagram Story before tweeting an obituary-style message written in the third person. Several outlets reported his death. But then, an hour later, Lopez posted Drake’s “Shabang” on his Instagram Story. In other news, Addison Rae received a Fortnite skin this week.
A tech startup just invented painless tattoos
Startup Cipher-X has announced a new tattooing process that is fast, permanent, and, most significantly, painless. The technique uses a patch embedded with microneedles, which are pressed onto the skin and left in place for 15 minutes. The pigment develops over the following days, gradually revealing the small finished tattoo. The technology is still in its infancy, and tattoo fads are common, so it’ll be interesting to see if it will stick around.
Lab monkey prices are booming
Amid increasing biotech and drug development competition between China and the U.S., the price of lab monkeys in China has more than doubled over the past year, to an average of $26,000. The spike echoes the surge in lab monkey prices during COVID-19, when shrinking supply amidst high demand drove costs upward. However, this latest increase reflects a different trend: China’s growing role as a leader in innovative drug development and an increasingly important destination for clinical trials.
