NYC artist Lucien Smith passed away
Multidisciplinary downtown New York artist Lucien Smith passed away this week at the age of 37. Smith rose to prominence in the early 2010s, and had far-reaching influence across painting, food, fashion, and film. His contributions number more than could be condensed into this blurb, but his influence on downtown New York and its artists will be felt for generations to come.
We’re getting a new Twin Peaks video game
In a massive leak on Steam this week, the achievements for over 80 games were revealed. Some of these games were unreleased. The most interesting spoiler was for a new Twin Peaks game. A producer of the original series and one of Lynch’s closest aids, Sabrina Sutherland, confirmed the game’s existence.
Another major art world heist: thieves stole 4 Renoir paintings (but dropped 2 running away)
This week, four Renoir paintings were stolen by thieves from the Renoir Museum in southern France. Two of the paintings were later abandoned, but the two that the thieves managed to escape with are estimated to be worth $10.5 million. Interestingly, stolen works of art like these can be extremely difficult to resell for their full market value, as their provenance and theft records make them highly recognizable and virtually impossible to move through legitimate channels.
4 Silicon Valley blockbuster movies are in the works
2026 is shaping up to be the year of big tech movies in Hollywood. This week multiple major trailers were released. Here’s where things stand:
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s secret three-year A24 documentary You Can See Everything about Elizabeth Holmes, founder of Theranos, stole the spotlight at Telluride.
Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial is about Sam Altman’s removal and reappointment at OpenAI.
There’s also a four-hour Elon Musk documentary, Musk, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and has already been publicly critiqued by Musk himself.
Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning, a companion to 2010’s The Social Network, will premier October 9th.

Hideo Kojima is taking his new game to Xbox, and expanding into film and television
After more than a decade of partnership with PlayStation, Hideo Kojima is ending his relationship with Sony and joining forces with Xbox. The decision was reportedly spurred by PlayStation’s cancellation of Kojima’s long-awaited action-espionage game, Physint. Xbox will release Physint, as well as Kojima’s other highly anticipated horror game, O.D., starring Hunter Schafer. The partnership will also expand beyond video games, with Kojima and Xbox collaborating on film and television projects.-
