Chanel teases Cruise 2026 with a beautiful surreal mermaid short film
The minute-long teaser presents an abstract mermaid love story, weaving together clips of crashing waves on a beach and ballet choreography between two models. The soundtrack is “Symphonie en Si Mineur, I. Allegro ben marcato,” a 1998 arrangement by Tony Finno of a work attributed to Claude Debussy, performed by the Orchestre National de Lyon under Jun Märkl. The collection will be revealed tomorrow.
Dries Van Norton’s self-curated and funded exhibit is now open
This weekend, Dries Van Noten opened the inaugural exhibition of the Fondazione Dries Van Noten in Venice, marking a new chapter following his 2024 retirement from fashion. Titled “The Only True Protest Is Beauty,” the expansive, self-curated show runs through October 4 and brings together over 200 works across 20 rooms, spanning couture, sculpture, Murano glass, and contemporary installation. The exhibition is fully self-funded with Patrick Vangheluwe, who co-purchased Palazzo Pisani Moretta from the Sammartini family under the condition it remain a cultural site rather than become a hotel.
This ex-Margiela artist is tattooing archival runway collections
Amsterdam-based tattoo artist Star Bunni’s tattoo work engages with fashion on a deeper level than your typical superficial logo references. Her tattoos draw from archival runway collections, the textures and construction of specific garments, and obscure brand iconography. Since leaving her role as a textile intern at Margiela and completing her graduate collection last year, she’s taken her practice global with a tattoo world tour. Book her for a piece, or explore her avant-garde garments on the side.
Nike may be bringing back their cult favorite Jun Takahashi running collab
A recent article from Nike’s Chief Design Officer quietly included an easter egg: a nondescript garment labeled “Gyakusou HO26.” First launched in 2010, it’s been five years since the last release from the Gyakusou line, a long-running collaboration between Nike and Jun Takahashi of Undercover. The series blends technical running gear with Takahashi’s signature muted palette and tailored silhouettes. “Gyakusou,” which translates to “reverse running,” nods to Takahashi’s habit of running against traffic in Tokyo’s Yoyogi Park.
Letterboxd (one of the last large independent media platforms) is seeking a buyer
According to an exclusive published by Semafor, the controlling investor in the film social media app Letterboxd is looking to sell to a large company or private equity firm. Many online view this news as a disaster, given that Letterboxd remains one of the last vanguards of independent media. If a larger corporation were to purchase it, it would likely become highly commercialized, littered with ads, and lose the unique quality that makes it special to movie lovers.
